People should also know that copy machines can be the source for identity information, especially during tax time. Certain fax and copy machines hold a copy of what is sent or copied in its internal memory, which can be re-printed later. It's just something people should look out for, and encrypted machines prevent this from happening.

Thanks for your input and yes there are a thousand ways these crooks work . You can't stop it all but a little vigilance and awareness goes a long way.

My town organizes a "shredding event" at quite a few locations, where people can go just to shred personal documents about once a year, usually just after tax time. It's pretty neat, and I just hope more cities get in on this type of activity. It brings people together, creates awareness, and prevents personal information from being left around the house or in your trash.
